Skip Clayton started in broadcasting at WRCV Radio as a copy boy in the newsroom on May 29, 1962. Three months later, became the record librarian until February 12, 1963 when he was drafted. He returned to the station on February 8, 1965.

Four months later, WRCV Radio changed to KYW Radio on February 19, 1965. He became Music Director and was the last Music Director in the station’s history. In September of that year, 1060 AM became KYW Newsradio and Skip left the station shortly thereafter.

Then he went to work at WPBS (the Evening Bulletin newspaper’s FM station) programming music and was the producer of Jack Pyle’s Saturday Night Big Band Wagon. He was laid off and left on May 6, 1966.

He started at WRCP about two months later as Music Director until the station went Country & Western. He was Traffic Director and Public Service Director and at the end of 1968, became the Sports Director. He left the station in the early part of 1977.

Skip Clayton started working for the ABC Radio Network covering sports in November, 1968. He covered the Phillies, Eagles, 76’ers, Flyers and Auto Racing.

Then he went the freelance route and in 1983 became the Associate Publisher of the Phillies Report until June 30, 1997.

Clayton started working at WBCB Radio in Levittown hosting Racing Wrap on February 17, 1997. He still does the show today. It is on every Monday night, 5 pm to 6 pm and it is on 52 weeks a year. He has done over 880 straight weeks. He started doing “This Date in Phillies History” on WBCB on April 1, 2011.

He has also written four books, 50 Phabulous Phillies, Tales of Miami Dolphins with Garo Yepremian which was on the 30 th anniversary of the 1972 Dolphins undefeated season and the book was updated on the 40 th anniversary season. I have updated along with Don Bostrom and Larry Shenk, “This Date in Phillies” which is out now as an e-book. Larry Shenk and former Hall of Fame Baseball Writer, Allen Lewis originally wrote it in 1979. He is also currently working on a NASCAR book.
