Our college student symposium
at the studios of WPVI-TV, 6ABC
Saturday morning, October 23, 2010

Once again, it was time for our annual Broadcast Pioneers Symposium. Area college students saw first hand a major market television station and listened to advice from their staff. This year, our 9th annual event was held at WPVI-TV, Channel 6. It all took place on Saturday morning, October 23rd from 9 am to 1 pm. Our moderator was Broadcast Pioneers president Jerry Klein.

Maxine Crooks, executive producer for WPVI's Action News
Pat Delsi, former station owner of WSSJ Radio in Camden, NJ
Melissa Magee, meteorologist for WPVI-TV, 6 ABC
Linda Munich, Vice-President of Public Affairs for WPVI-TV
Walter Perez, anchor for Action News, WPVI-TV, 6 ABC
Marilyn Phister, executive producer for programming

There was a tour of the new 6ABC, WPVI-TV facilities and there was time for students to sit on the Action News set, read from the teleprompter or do weather in front of the green screen. There was also a panel discussion with broadcast professionals where you learned all about getting that first job!

HERE'S SOME VIDEO!

After the panel discussion, we took the students for a tour of the station and finally into the Action News air studio. Every student who wanted to got a chance to sit on the set and read some of that morning's news from the teleprompter. Here's a little sampling of what they looked like.
