On Wednesday, September 19, 2001, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held their first meeting since June. It was at the beautiful Bala Golf Club in Philadelphia where the organization saluted "The WIBBAGE Good Guys." The speakers that day were two of the greatest; the legendary Hy Lit and icon Bill Wright, Sr., both members of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. Famed WCAU radio personality Ed Harvey (also a member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia) was the M.C. for the afternoon. All are inductees into our Hall of Fame.

WARNING: The video clips were encoded in 2001. At that time (believe it or not), what you see was the standard of the industry at that time. We do have the master tape and hope in the future to re-encode it with today's standards. All video (unless otherwise stated) is in the Real Video format.

In our first clip, Ed Harvey started with Hy Lit. Hy spoke about the early days of WIBG's rock format. Watch Hy Lit!

In the second clip, Hy Lit announced something that many of us in the business have known for several years, he had Parkinson's Disease. Watch Hy Lit!

In the next excerpt, Hy Lit talked about the Terrorist Attacks against the United States on September 11th. From there, he and Bill Wright discussed more about the early days of Radio 99, WIBG. Watch Hy Lit & Bill Wright, Sr.

And next, Hy Lit talked about Payola and friends and Bill Wright discussed the Beatles. Watch Hy & Bill!

In our last clip, Bill Wright talked about coming to WPEN Radio. Watch Bill Wright, Sr.

During the meeting, we had two taped pieces. One was by Dick Clark, who was a music force in Philadelphia at the same time WIBG began rocking. The other was a recorded telephone message from one of our members, the Rockin' Bird, Joe Niagara, also one of the WIBG Greats. Clark & Niagara are also in our Hall of Fame. Watch Dick Clark!

A brief sidebar...On Tuesday morning, September 11th, 2001, America came under terrorist attack. Ed Papazian, our newly installed President started the meeting with a few words and a moment of silence in honor of those who lost their lives that day.

NOTE: We have recoded this video in 2012. It was shot on slow speed VHS tape with a home video camera. Therefore, the quality is not wonderful However, it is the best that can be done with the original source material.

Finally, we ended our meeting with something unusual. We all sang a patriotic song. We wish to present a couple of stills from that moment.
