Captain Noah
WPVI-TV
circa 1975

Although widely believed, this is NOT a picture of Popeye, famous cartoon star. It is, instead, our very own Captain Noah, also known as Broadcast Pioneers board member W. Carter Merbreier. Each morning, he would poke his head through a porthole and do his popeye imitation. At that time, Popeye was an important part of "Captain Noah and His Magical Ark."

Broadcast Pioneers member Bill Russell, who was Captain Noah's stage manager at Channel 6 once said, "so this is what happens to you when you have eight years of post graduate studies in college."
