On Saturday, April 12, 2003, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held its second annual broadcast symposium. This one was at the studios of CBS 3, KYW-TV in Philadelphia.

The symposium was in three parts. First was a visit to Studio A where there was an actual live news broadcast in process. On Saturday, April 12, 2003, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia held its second annual Broadcast Symposium. This year's event was held at the studios of CBS 3, KYW-TV in Center City Philadelphia. The students were taken into Studio A while a newscast was on the air. There, they saw CBS 3 News Anchors Carol Erickson and Robin Rieger along with CBS 3 Meteorologist Tom Lamaine.

Tom is a long time member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia and Carol is a new member. After the news team went off the air, the students talked with the CBS 3 people. Listen to what was said! Listen to what was said!

After a pizza lunch provided by CBS 3, our after lunch speaker was Marc Howard, CBS 3 news anchor at 11 pm. Marc is also a long time member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.

First to speak was CBS Communications Director Joanne Calabria.

Next was Lew Klein, former Executive Producer of American Bandstand and co-owner of Gateway Communications, a company that owned a chain of TV stations. Lew is also a Professor at Temple University in Communications. Klein is also a member of the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia and one of our past presidents.

Broadcast Pioneers member Larry Litwin, our next speaker has worn many hats. He's currently a Professor at the Rowan College of Communication. He has also been a news anchor and reporter for KYW Newsradio and ABC Radio.

Our next speaker was Dave Madden, a member of the Broadcast Pioneers. Dave, a graduate of Temple University is a news anchor for KYW Newsradio (he was on the air at noon that day).
