1968

In 1965, three UHF television stations in the Philadelphia market came on the air, Channels 29, 48 and 17 (in that order). By 1968, WKBS-TV, Channel 48, owned by Kaiser Broadcasting decided it was time to do a newscast (30 minutes) at 10 pm. This was at a time when news in Philly aired at 11 pm (and on Channels 3, 6 and 10).

From our archives, we have the voice-over for a Channel 48 promo pushing the new news program. The announcer was Broadcast Pioneers member John Carlton.

We just found the quick voice-over slide audio of John Carlton dating from Friday, August 25, 1967. It's promoting "Beyond the Limits," an old movie series of B films.
